Moratorium Extension
Eviction Protections Extended Until June 30th, 2021
Since the beginning of the pandemic, four million Texans have filed for unemployment, causing a significant increase in eviction cases. Tenants and landlords have been awaiting an update on the federal moratorium on evictions set to expire on March 31st, 2021. The moratorium has now been extended until June 30, 2021.
The extension is a timely effort to keep evictions from undermining the country's attempts to get COVID under control. Allowing evictions to continue has caused as many as 433,700 excess cases of COVID and 10,700 cases of additional deaths.
There have been some modifications to the moratorium. You can read an overview of eviction protections offered and eligibility here or the full order from the CDC.
